Walking tour on the tracks of Ulysses in Trapani

What if I told you that a curious theory locates Ulysses´ travels right around our island? If Ulysses´ homeland was not Ithaca, but .. Trapani? Yes, that´s right, Trapani! It was an English writer, Samuel Butler, supported by other scholars after him, who claimed that the hero´s wanderings took place in Sicily rather than in the Ionian Islands.

Are you ready to discover this fascinating theory? I can´t wait to tell you about it! Our walk will unfold starting from Villa Margherita, Trapani, point from which we will immerse ourselves in the historic city, discovering the oldest part. We will travel along via Garibaldi, which has much to tell about contemporary architecture at the time when Samuel Butler visited Trapani. We will arrive at the ancient Fish Market Square to continue along the Walls of Tramontana without losing sight of the sea, the focal point of the entire narrative of the most famous traveler in the world: Ulysses.

We will then go into the narrow streets of the historic center, the true heart of a city of the sea, of sailors and fishermen to finally reach Torre di Ligny, where we will find the petrified ship of the Feaci waiting for us. It echoes in the mouths of the locals as ´The rock of Malconsiglio´ and we will discover together why tradition has handed down this name since time immemorial.

The tour will take place in compliance with the health regulations issued for the Covid-19 emergency.

TECHNICAL DATA: Walk on road ZTL area and not. Duration of the tour: about 2 and a half hours. Difficulty: easy. Comfortable shoes are recommended. The use of the mask is mandatory.
