An atmospheric place, to visit with an in-depth look, a seaside town with the sea that has been able to trace the fate of all its territory, an area of great natural beauty.

HISTORY

History and culture are worth much more than a passing attention, thanks to an incredible location.
The city lies on a promontory shaped like a crescent that stretches towards the sea.
It was founded by the Elimi, ancient people of western Sicily, to serve as a port to the nearby town of Erice, in Monte San Giuliano.
Originally, his name was Drepanon, from the greek, which comes from the curved shape of its harbor, precisely-shaped "sickle".
Carthage took control in 260 BC making it an important naval base.
A few decades later he was transferred to the ancient Rome of Catullus after the Battle of the Egadi in the First Punic War.
It was during the Crusades, however, that the city grew in importance, becoming one of the most important ports of the Mediterranean.
Many of the historical traces have unfortunately been destroyed by heavy bombardments of World War II, but the center, which is characterized by the sea on both sides, that is by no means a thorough examination: a maze of narrow streets, ancient buildings and churches survived the wear and tear of time and history.
